4th May Discovery of the week! If you get home early from work, at the moment there's enough daylight for an evening walk! From Cassiobury Park we cross the Grand Union Canal at Iron Bridge Lock (#77) and head up through Whippendell Woods, Lees Wood and Harrocks Wood...
Chilterns Walks
Crawley Woods & The Coombe
29th April It's 7-30am on Sunday morning and we're blundering around Crawley Wood, trying to capture the early morning mist and the magical colours. We walk through The Coombe and out of the woods towards Gallows Hill. We said it yesterday but it bears repeating, on a good day the view would be great. A loop back across Ivinghoe Beacon, through the woods and we're back at the car before we know it, a short 3.4 mile walk.
Chinnor Hill
28th April This is a walk of two halves. The first through a succession of Buckinghamshire Chiltern woods, Crowell Wood, Venus Woods, Sunley Wood and Chinnor Hill. The second part returns via Lodge Hill, the Bledlow Ridge valley and Radnage. On a better day the views would be great but alas, not today!
Crocker End
21st April We're back to Bix again...and the sump-busting, pot-holed, crawl along the lane to park at the Warburg Nature Reserve. We are determined to make the most of the sunny weather and this time, the walk doesn't disappoint. It's probably the shortest walk we've completed in quite some time but nevertheless really enjoyable! Walking … Continue reading Crocker End
Lye Green
7th April Some walks don't live long in the memory and this will be one of those. They are enjoyable but most probably because getting out on a Saturday morning is always good and the conversation is enjoyable. Spring this year has been dull and today was no exception.
Chesham
31st March Grey, dull, misty and wet! That sums up Easter 2018. In spite of the Chilterns walks we've covered during the last 2 years, by and large we've overlooked Chesham and its Buckinghamshire valleys. We start off along the Chartridge valley. The clouds are low today. So low in fact, that the hilltops are … Continue reading Chesham
Horsleys Green
30th March This was a Good Friday afternoon walk with Hannah & David, a real family affair! There are a limited number of times we'll be able to do this so they're moments to be savoured, irrespective of the weather...which, incidentally, was rubbish. That's enough introspection! Stokenchurch, Radnage and West Wycombe are becoming familiar sights … Continue reading Horsleys Green
Stonor
25th February A Sunday afternoon walk in one of the most beautiful parts of the Chilterns. We love Hambleden and the surrounding woods.
Sandridge
17th February In spite of my general distrust of everything 'St Albans' we're back, less than 2 miles north of the city centre. Once again my hackles are raised! St Albans, a city?! A quick consultation of Wikipedia and I discover that between 1877 and 1888 any municipal borough in which an Anglican see was … Continue reading Sandridge
Wendover Canal
15th February We've walked around here so much now that our walks just link up sections we're already explored, at least for the first 5 miles of this walk. This generates much conversation about what happened when we were here last and what time of year it was. Who'd have thought our lives were so … Continue reading Wendover Canal
