Best Oxfordshire Walks

 Walk 1:
Upper-Gatehampton-Farm

Upper-Gatehampton-Farm

Goring

We completed this at the height of summer and were grateful that the first part is almost entirely woods. The return, along the Thames, is flat, if a little exposed to the sun. A 12 mile walk that will take most of the day. We love the Thames Valley…but that goes back many years and is not just due to the walks!

 Walk 2:
Mapledurham-Mill

Mapledurham-Mill

Mapledurham

A lovely walk from Peppard Green down to the Thames at Mapledurham before returning via Crane End. Again, a 12 mile walk that will take most of the day and beware, unless you do this walk on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, Mapledurham will be all locked up.

 Walk 3:
Grim's Ditch

Grim’s Ditch

Nettlebed

From Nuffield Place (National Trust) this 12 mile walk takes in the Ridgeway, Grims Ditch and some nice views over South Oxfordshire towards Goring and Wallingford. Another all day walk.

Walk 4:
Autumn-colours

Autumn-colours

Wheatley

At last a morning (or perhaps better, afternoon) walk in Oxfordshire. This is a short (well, relatively short) 9 miles. Starting early at a leisurely pace you could finish this walk in time for a late lunch in Wheatley. Alternatively, I get the feeling the afternoon view of the Chilterns from Castle Hill Farm would be worth seeing, meaning late afternoon refreshments in Wheatley.

Walk 5:
Early-morning-on-The-River

Early-morning-on-The-River

Shiplake

Another 9 mile walk, this time along the Thames. A couple of climbs towards the end but otherwise a leisurely stroll through the South Oxfordshire countryside.
