Glynde, East Sussex

23rd August

Now our walks are dictated by Fitbit! A day of inactivity yesterday suggested that we should be out enjoying the weather today. This was the walk when one of us achieved their Serengeti badge. No, means nothing to me either…but apparently one of us has walked 500 miles since May!

This was a hilly walk, made more difficult by starting at 3-30pm, still in the heat of the day…and today was one of the hottest of the year. You can track the hills by the heart rate graph. We parked up in the village car park and climbed up out of Glynde onto the Mount Caburn National Nature Reserve before dropping down into Caburn and Oxteddle Bottom. The only sound was the drone of the occasional airliner, otherwise the silence was complete. Onwards to Lewes and spectacular views over the town and the Ouse, languidly snaking towards the Channel. The return took us across Lewes Golf Course to Saxon Cross before turning south and back to Glyde by 6pm. A 5.5 mile walk and a perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon.
