Hexton

23rd March

Search as hard as you like, it’s difficult to find anything of note to say about this part of Bedfordshire…Barton-le-Clay, Hexton, Higham Gobion, Wrest Park, Silsoe and Pulloxhill should all be names to conjure a multitude of interesting stories…but nothing! Literally nothing! Perhaps the landscape has inadvertently influenced the attitudes of those who’ve lived around here. People around here prefer to blend in than stand out…and there’s nothing wrong with that, I’d like to add!

However, it does set the tone for this walk. The skies are dull and the landscape flat. Distant views of the Chilterns and Greensands Ridge are all that break the horizon. Spring is on its way but, to tell the truth, it will be a few more weeks before anyone around here realizes it and they’ll probably not tell anyone when they notice, either.

Shushhhhhh! Please don’t disturb the ambiance!

We complete our walk without much to report, a flat walk in rural Bedfordshire and part of our slow journey around Luton. It may be spectacular in the height of summer but not today! An unremarkable 11 mile walk.
