Best walks under 6 miles

We’re not quick walkers and we stop plenty of times to take pictures but if you walk at about our pace we reckon these walks should take under three hours to complete.

Walk 1:
Brocket Hall, Lemsford

Brocket Hall, Lemsford

Lemsford Mill

A stroll through the grounds of Brocket Hall. Starting at Lemsford Mill, just off the A1(M), this walk takes in Brocket Hall (now mostly known for its golf course) and the quiet bridleways near Coleman Green. An ideal afternoon walk, 5.5 miles long, flat and a finish at the Sun Inn, Lemsford.

 Walk 2:
Broadfield Farm, Kings Langley

Broadfield Farm, Kings Langley

Chipperfield

A short, 5 mile walk across Chipperfield Common and on to King’s Langley before returning via Langleybury Fields. Close to the M25 and A41 so don’t expect idyllic quiet but Chipperfield Common is quaint, particularly in the summer.

 Walk 3:
Chartridge Ashridge valley

Chartridge Ashridge valley

Chartridge

5 1/2 miles, no stiles, no steep hills. In all honesty, an easy afternoon stroll. Stop at the Bell in Chartridge afterwards for refreshment.

Walk 4:
Latimer Road weir

Latimer Road weir

Little Chalfont

A short 5 mile walk in the Chess Valley. Some great views of the valley and the return through Lane Wood in enjoyable. There is a section along Latimer Road which could do with being adjusted…the road is quiet busy.

Walk 5:
Spring in Hertfordshire

Spring in Hertfordshire

Ashridge

For a few weeks at the end of April and the beginning of May, parts of the Chilterns are enveloped in a stunning carpet of woodland colour. Our recommendation, make the most of it! This walk takes in Dockey Wood on the Ashridge Estate and is less than 4 miles long. Because of its popularity, the National Trust has stated charging for access to the woods during the day but get there early (before 9am) and entry is free.
