Ayot St Lawrence

29th October

Hannah’s back for the weekend! That deserves to be celebrated…and in better style than an afternoon of turgid football at The Vic. So, Sunday mid-morning (after church), we’re off to Wheathampstead. Compared to our walks earlier in the week, this is flat but far from boring. The company helps, of course it does…but then so does the weather! It’s warmer, drier and sunnier than at any time in Devon.

We’ve done parts of this walk with Adrian and Sue before but this is longer and takes in Ayot St Peter and George Bernard Shaw’s house at Ayot St Lawrence. We stop briefly at the ruined St Lawrence Church and discover, once again, that one of us is more photogenic than the rest. As for the remainder, the walking is easy, it’s flat compared to earlier in the week and the sun casts some beautiful shadows along the lanes. We’re back at the car before we know it, 8.4 miles. A stroll compared to Dartmoor!
