Speen

3rd June

In my head I’m still 21…which means I could still twist and turn like Gareth Bale, run like Mo Farrah and build a body like Daniel Craig…if I could be bothered! David joined us today for our walk and my delusional imaginings are revealed.

There is nothing too taxing about this walk, a 8.5 mile walk through the woods and fields around Great Hampden. We were here only a few weeks ago and we start from the same place and, for the last mile, we follow the same paths.  However, in between we loop south as far as North Dean before turning for home and a series of steep ascents and descents across the valleys near Piggott’s Woods, Bryants Bottom and Denner Hill. It’s here that the full extent of my hubris is apparent. I blame it on the hot afternoon sun…it only seems like yesterday I was encouraging him and his cousin up Firle Beacon…today it’s more like a outing for Little and Large.

Nevertheless, an enjoyable walk with some nice views at North Dean and Bryant’s Bottom and plenty of shade from the sun in the woods…typically Chilterns!
