So, tell the truth now, who avoided the Royal Wedding by going for a walk? Seven years ago David and I escaped whilst Kate and William took their vows. On that day we went for a walk near Parslow’s Hillock, Princes Risborough. We tried again today… but once Sue’s family get talking…as it was, we left during the sermon, which was the highlight, I hear.
In the end, we did return to Princes Risborough, starting at Redland End this time. The unusually late start means we’re walking during the heat of the day. The weather is glorious but almost all of this walk passes through the woods and shady tracks between Princes Risborough and Wendover. We discuss how much of the Chilterns is just woods, lanes and farm tracks…and on days like today, its a real blessing! We pass Chequers in the distance before the steep climb onto Coombe Hill. There’s a handily placed ice cream van in the car park and, refreshed, we descend into Wenover before turning for home. Fugden Wood, Little Hampden Common, Great Hampden and we’re back at the car…by which time its getting late in the afternoon. The early evening cool, combined with the dropping sun, creates a beautiful ambience. 12.4 miles and it turns out that a late start is a good idea after all! Thank you, Little family!

Thank you for opening my eyes to all the lovely walks I have so close to my home. We live just outside the Chilterns but have only started exploring since we retired.
We escaped to France for both royal weddings, and it was perfect!

It sounds like your way of avoiding Royal weddings is more expensive than mine 🙂 but I suspect you’re guaranteed better weather. We think the Chilterns are worth celebrating and it’s hard to find a bad walk, there really is so much choice. Enjoy exploring!
